Transmission

Although transmission problems sound daunting, Foster’s has skilled technicians ready to diagnose transmission issues and install working parts.

Transmission problems may arise whether you drive an automatic or manual vehicle. It’s important to check your Owner’s Manual for vehicle specifics on how often to perform transmission services. However, “transmission oil change or flush depends on how hard you work your vehicle and the conditions under which it operates,” says Matt DeLorenzo, senior managing editor for Kelley Blue Book. Having the transmission fluid checked for debris or discoloration is key to determine if you need this service or not. Transmission repair can be very costly — that’s why a little preventative maintenance can go a long way.

Besides preventative maintenance, sometimes transmissions need more in-depth diagnosis and repair. One of the most common transmission problems is low or leaking transmission fluid. Other potential problems include damaged solenoids, slipping gears, or worn clutches. Foster’s will do our upmost to make these transmission diagnoses as fast and stress-free as possible. Once we find out the extent of the damage to your transmission, we can replace it and get you back on the road safely without compromising efficiency.

Know when to bring your car in for a transmission diagnosis:

  • Grinding, shaking, or jarring when changing gears
  • Your transmission either delays or doesn’t engage at all
  • You hear whining, humming, or clunking noises
  • Your car smells like it’s burning
  • The Check Engine light is illuminated
  • Your car slips out out gear
  • There’s a bright red, or dirty dark red puddle of fluid under your car

If your vehicle is experiencing any of these problems, bring it in to the experts at Foster’s who will check for wear and diagnose any mechanical problems with your transmission. Don’t delay — ignoring symptoms can lead to a host of expensive and costly repairs!
